Balenciaga was founded in 1919 by Cristóbal, a Spanish designer. Developing a reputation as a perfectionist, he would push the designs of his clothing until 1968 when he closed his business. The rights to the company were acquired by Jacques Bogart S.A in 1986, but today ownership rests with Kering. Over the years, the brand has been worn by Jackie Kennedy, Queen Fabiola of Belgium, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Connelly.
